I am looking at buying a boat that has an Evinrude 88HP SPL (late 80's) on it and was wandering if anyone knows anything about these motors. Any known problems? If the motor cranks when you jump it there are a couple of things that it could be, a bad 20 amp fuse, starter solenoid, ignition switch, safety neutral switch, or bad wiring. (I'm assumming the control box is in neutral). The 20 amp fuse is on the motor in a red wire coming off the solenoid. (I would check the fuse first).
Hey all, Im looking to install a Faria tach for my outboard. I purchased the Evinrude wiring harness that plugs right into the harness plug off of my throttle box. Easy enough right? What concerns me is that the Faria instructions say for an 88 and 112 hp a voltage regulator is recommended. Neutral is with the stick straight up. It should lock in place until you pull the trigger under the handle. That little lever is the fast idle lever. It only works in neutral and allows you to rev it up to start and warm up your motor.

The ethanol breaks the hose down and the bits lodge in the small orfices/passages of the carbs on engines up to very early 80's or so. It does not have the amenties like the 90 or 115hp have.
