Asterosoma

Conostichus, Zoophycus, and Asterosoma are most commonly found in sandstone and siltstone of this region. Plant fossils are not abundant but are present in the sandstone, siltstone, and shale. Limestone in this region is usually fossiliferous and contains crinoids, blastoids, bryozoa, brachiopods, corals, and ammonoids. Arkansas River Valley .

The observed trace fossil assemblage is relatively diverse, including ichnotaxa such as Asterosoma, Planolites, Palaeophycus, Terebellina, and Anconichnus. Interpretation: The predominance of mudstone facies and a strong degree of bioturbation by an impoverished marine ichnofauna indicates a low energy, possibly restricted, depositional setting ...The composite Asterosoma-Teichichnus ich-nofabric (bioturbation degree 5) occurs in layers without body fossils and representssuites of the Cruziana ichnofacies. Asterosoma . ludwigae is well known from the Carboniferous Atoka shale including Phycosiphon, Chondrites, Asterosoma, Rhizocorallium, and Zoophycos. These facies show a strong wave influence on deposition, but with persistent evidence of fluvial and possibly tidal conditions, reflected by abundant mud drapes attributed to fluid mud and/or flocculation of mud from buoyant (hypopycnal) plumes.

The mass of rock at the base of the outcrop broke free from where it formed and slid downhill to this location. After sliding (or tumbling) to its new location, sediment accumulated around the olistolith. Eventually, it and the sediment became a new rock .Natural fractures and discontinuities have significant impact on subsurface flow conditions and thus production, of carbonate reservoirs, particularly in low-permeability sediments such as chalk ... ….
