My friend has the 2001 and his is 29mm. I have the 1998 and mine was 31. Its beside the point though... the fact is that carb is too big for that engine size.... and especially a torquey engine! I also changed my needle setting to all the way so when you throttle you get more gas. one other item is vacuum line, pinch it and see if it runs better. A rebuild kit for carb is only $26 on ebay.
