On electronic distributors there is a wire up by the passenger side firewall that has to be unplugged while setting the timing. I think it's tan and has a plug on it to unplug. be sure to plug it back in after done timing.the legendary bb chevrolet / chevy came in 366-454 cubic inches called the mark IV series. and later in 496 or 8.1 . with two different deck height one for cars and light trucks and one of heavy duty use that was .400 taller the 366 only came as a tall deck but both 427 and 454 came both ways
