After a controversial decision which eventually split the local fraternity, Witanshire decided to become a part of a national organization. They were chartered as the Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma on May 9, 1953. From 1972-1973, the chapter’s membership began to deteriorate, with the chapter closing in March of 1974.Sigma Tau Gamma (ΣΤΓ), commonly known as Sig Tau, is a United States college social fraternity founded on June 28, 1920, at the University of Central Missouri (then known as Central Missouri State Teachers College).
