Aug 21, 2023 · BG3 Fighting Style includes Archery, Defense, Dueling, and Great Weapon Fighting. Every fighting style has its own merits and demerits. As mentioned earlier, personal preferences weapons and usual fighting controls often distinguish players' choices but defense is a go-to class because it offers a bonus to Armor Class (AC). I don't know how to read the BG3 text in a way that doesn't mean "A versatile weapon held in one hand does not benefit from dueling," as a conscious call out to being different than normal 5e rules. Dueling will pretty much lock you into a Sword and Board fightning style for the rest of the game, while with Defense you can switch if you get a cool 2hander. Dueling - if you will be using shield all the time. Defense - if you want to switch fighting styles (2h, S@B, ranged). Take defense whatever happens.
