There are several things you need to know about COAL: 1. If the bullet is seated deeper the pressure increases and if seated further out pressure decreases unless the bullet is so far out that it contacts the lands in which case pressure increases. 2.Re: 458 socom 500gr load thanks for the help. i have gotten this under comtrol finally. the issue was using to little powder in the case with a primer that was not lighting off hot enough. mistakes-not using enough powder , found loads and backed off 10% WAY TO LIGHT could have been bad not using correct primers for load data
Max load for H110 is 31.5 gr. for the 300 gr. TTSX bullet. This is much lower max than for the 300 gr. X bullet which is 34.5 or 35.5 depending on the chart for H110. The SOCOM is an awesome cartridge that is basically a long 50AE (O.A.L. of 1.575") with a rebated .308 style head configuration, necked down to utilize a .458" diameter projectiles. It has been chambered in some bolt guns but it's claim to fame is in the AR-15 platform.The CMMG 458 Socom is a beefy rifle. H110 gives slightly higher velocity but will not work as well with midlength gas. Reloader #7 works well in both CAR and midlength gassed rifles and only gives up a few fps. At least they did when I got mine. Take the published stuff and cross reference it with posted loads. Load development like normal. I think I’ve posted a few loads on this forum.
