I took a break from clearing last weekend, and when I came back, the PTO lever would not move far enough for the PTO to engage. I tried rocking the tractor, barely engaging the clutch, etc. in the hopes that it was just a temporary gear alignment issue. So I pulled out the rear bearing seal at the back of the tractor, above the PTO output shaft and gently wiggled the top shaft out. It was extremely painless.
