Mar 13, 2015 · In high school, overachievers joined National Honor Society to get a special graduation cord. So when the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) sends a letter congratulating a student on their eligibility for membership, the first instinct is to send in due money without a second thought. NSCS requires a $95 joining fee. It’s a scam. Just got some mail from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars offering membership to the organization for a fee of $97. Was wondering if this was an actual legit thing that the school offers, or if it was just a massive scam.. any takes on this?Right-- no one here said either the national society of collegiate scholars or the National society of HS scholars were "scams". It's not an outright scam, as they do offer member benefits, such as scholarships and networking events, but its cost and selective prestige do not usually justify the investment.

If you receive unsolicited mail telling you you've won a scholarship, but you need to send money to claim it, throw the letter away. Another scam sends a check made out to you. In order to cash the check, they say you need to send them money. Don't send them any money—you won't see any money from them.
