The Gen 1 wins on aesthetics. It looks a lot more like the old school Galil profile-wise. I don't mind the handguard, I've got long/big hands and find it perfectly comfortable, plus my 'accessories bin' is largely built around the picatinny interface. The Gen 2 does win on safety selector ergonomics for sure.

I put a binary trigger in my Galil ace gen 1, 7.62x39. It hung up on the bolt guides rails. Fitment was not an issue. I did have to polish up the guides a bit, and it works fine. Went to the range and had zero issues with cycling. it was super awesome having my Galil breathing fire and throwing lead down range. 10/10 I would highly recommend.

The ALG trigger is about 18.5 mm or so wide where the pin goes through and the stock trigger is about 17mm. So all I did was file down the left and right side equally to get it the same width as the stock trigger, then I just reused the trigger and hammer springs. That's it. Even kept last round bolt hold open.
